Tying a horse with a rigid lead rope means guaranteeing a sharp jolt to the poll at the slightest backward movement. Elastic absorbs the shock—but elastic alone sends the horse forward again, making it even more anxious. The folded nylon sheath solves both problems: it lets the elastic work over the first few centimetres, then stops the extension sharply at around 30% and remains non-deformable from then on.
