A 2.5-ring bit made of mild steel with a blue patina and a Waterford ball barrel.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to moist air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ A series of articulated elliptical links: the barrel conforms to every shape and provides no fixed point of resistance. Used on heavy horses that lean on the hand and have difficulty relaxing their jaw.
- ✔ A milder version of the three-ring (Pessoa): leverage is present, and becomes more direct the lower the rein is attached. The loose rings allow more movement in the bit than a version with fixed rings.
📋 Technical specifications

- Barrel: Waterford ball

🐎 Why choose this product?
No fixed point of resistance: the heavy horse has nothing to lean against. Reserve it for experienced hands, as its mobility leaves no room for an unsteady hand.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or take the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it presses the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Leverage acts on the poll: use it with a light hand and check the cheekpiece adjustment. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Very mobile barrel, reserved for experienced and steady hands.
