A full-cheek bit made of mild steel with a blue patina and a double-jointed French Link mouthpiece.

✨ Highlights

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When it comes into contact with moist air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with a figure-eight-shaped center plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. Its finer edges make its action slightly sharper than that of a standard double-jointed mouthpiece, and the plate is angled at 45° to lie flat on the tongue.
  • ✔ Two vertical cheeks on a fixed ring. These full cheeks press against the side of the cheek and make steering considerably easier. The ring is smaller than that of a D-ring bit, so the leverage effect is reduced.

📋 Technical specifications

🐎 Why choose this product?

The figure-eight plate distributes pressure evenly across the tongue: this is the standard double-jointed mouthpiece, the one to try when a single joint causes discomfort.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or take the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The tall cheeks are attached to the bridle with keepers to prevent them from tipping forward. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange coating appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
