A Sweet Iron snaffle with vertical cheeks and a ridged mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ The mouthpiece is ridged along its entire length. The ridges provide more grip on the bars than a smooth mouthpiece.
- ✔ Two vertical cheeks on a fixed ring. These cheeks press against the side of the horse's face and significantly aid steering. The ring is smaller than that of a D-ring bit, so the leverage effect is reduced.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The ridges provide more bite than a smooth mouthpiece without going as far as a twisted mouthpiece: an intermediate option when a smooth mouthpiece is no longer enough.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit sizer, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The tall cheeks are attached to the bridle with keepers to prevent them from tipping forward. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ The mouthpiece is sharper than a smooth mouthpiece: avoid it for sensitive mouths.
