A loose-ring bit made of mild steel with a blue patina and a Cherry Roller barrel.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Single-jointed barrel fitted with loose rollers on each side. The rollers discourage the horse from grabbing the bit or locking it between its teeth.
- ✔ The rings slide freely through the barrel. Rein aids therefore act less directly than with a fixed-ring bit: the bit moves, so the horse cannot lean against a fixed point of contact.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The rollers occupy the mouth of a horse that tries to lock its bit between its teeth — a habit that ruins all contact.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or measure the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: pinching occurs between the moving ring and the barrel. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
