A loose-ring bit made of mild steel with a blue patina and a twisted, single-jointed mouthpiece.

- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Single joint with both arms twisted. The twisting creates edges, resulting in a more incisive action on the bars than a smooth single joint.
- ✔ The rings slide freely through the mouthpiece. The action of the hand therefore reaches the mouth less directly than with a fixed-ring bit: the bit moves, so the horse cannot lean against a fixed contact point.

The twisting sharpens the action on the bars: this is a bit for occasional corrective use and should not be left in a horse's mouth for extended periods.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: the corner of the mouth is pinched between the moving ring and the mouthpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ This mouthpiece is suitable neither for sensitive horses nor for inexperienced riders.
