- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a wide tongue port. Unlike other double-jointed bits, it reduces pressure on the tongue rather than increasing it.
- ✔ The rings slide freely through the mouthpiece. Rein aids therefore reach the horse less directly than with a fixed-ring bit: the bit moves, so the horse cannot lean against a fixed contact point.
- ✔ Used for horses that do not tolerate pressure on the tongue.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit sizer, or measure the bit it currently wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: pinching occurs between the loose ring and the mouthpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
