An eggbutt bit made of blue-patina mild steel, with a lock-up jointed mouthpiece.
✨ Key benefits
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ The single joint locks as soon as it bends: under rein tension, the mouthpiece then behaves like a straight mouthpiece, which intensifies its action. As soon as the tension eases, it becomes a single-jointed mouthpiece again.
- ✔ The rings do not slide: the bit stays in a stable position in the mouth and the action of the hand is transmitted more directly. The eggbutt sides do not pinch the lips, so bit guards are unnecessary.
- ✔ Corrective mouthpiece, designed for horses that lean on the hand or run through the contact.

🐎 Why choose this product?
It gives you two bits in one: a single-jointed mouthpiece when the hand is light, and a straight mouthpiece as soon as the horse leans on it. The horse discovers for itself that pulling is not worthwhile.
🧴 Instructions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. Choose the thickness according to the mouth: a thick mouthpiece distributes pressure over a larger surface, but takes up too much space in a shallow mouth or with a thick tongue. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
