A three-ring (Pessoa) bit made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a Waterford ball mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ A series of articulated elliptical links: the mouthpiece follows every contour and offers no fixed point of resistance. Used on heavy horses that lean on the hand and have difficulty relaxing their jaw.
  • ✔ Leverage cheekpiece: the lower the rein is attached, the stronger the action. The point of support is on the poll, just behind the ears.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: three-ring (Pessoa) bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: Waterford with balls
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

There is no fixed point of support: the heavy horse has nothing to lean against. Reserve it for experienced hands, as its mobility leaves no room for a moving hand.

🧴 Usage tips

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or measure the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The three-ring bit increases the leverage of the hand. Start with the highest ring. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Very mobile mouthpiece, intended for experienced, steady hands.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
