A Baucher bit made of mild steel with a blue patina and a double-jointed French Link mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to moist air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed design with a figure-eight-shaped central plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. Its finer edges make the action slightly more incisive than that of a standard double-jointed bit, and the plate is angled at 45° so it lies flat on the tongue.
- ✔ Fixed-ring cheekpiece extended by an upper arm to which the bridle attaches. The bit remains very stable in the horse's mouth.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brownish-grey with use, and an orange coating appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
