A Beval bit made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a double-jointed Dr. Bristol mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a flat central plate. When the bit tilts, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
- ✔ Loose rings with two inner half-rings, allowing a slight leverage effect. The bridle cheekpiece attaches to the upper half-ring, while the rein attaches to the large ring or the lower half-ring.
- ✔ More incisive mouthpiece than a standard double-jointed bit: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or measure the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
