A Curbgag bit made of blue-patinated Sweet Iron, with a barrel featuring brass rings.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Barrel fitted with brass rings at its center. It is suitable for horses with a “dead” mouth that need stimulation, and increases tongue activity.
- ✔ A combination of a Pelham and a loose-ring gag bit: a loose ring with two holes on each side, through which a leather strap passes. The points of contact are the chin and poll. It can be used with one or two reins.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The brass reawakens a mouth that no longer salivates and has lost activity: this is a bit for getting the mouth working again, not an everyday bit.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Combined leverage and curb-chain action: for experienced riders only. ⚠️ The blue colour changes to silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ On a horse that is already restless in the mouth, this stimulation may produce the opposite effect.
