A Curbgag bit made of mild steel with a blue patina and a single-jointed mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Single joint. This mouthpiece puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed one and works mainly on the bars and sides of the tongue. This is the standard mouthpiece.
- ✔ A combination of a Pelham and a loose-ring gag: a loose ring with two holes on each side, through which a leather strap passes. The points of contact are the chin and poll. It can be used with one or two reins.

🐎 Why choose this product?
This is the mouthpiece most horses are familiar with: the one to start with, and the one to return to when you want to determine what comes from the bit and what comes from the hand.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Combined leverage and curb-chain action: intended for experienced riders only. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
