A Curbgag bit made of blue-patina mild steel, with a low tongue port.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Straight mouthpiece with a low tongue port. It provides a little more room for the tongue and correctly distributes pressure across the bars.
- ✔ A combination of a Pelham and a loose-ring elevator bit: a loose ring with two holes on each side, through which a leather strap passes. The points of pressure are the chin and poll. It can be used with one or two reins.

A little room for the tongue without freeing the palate: the first step toward tongue freedom when a simple joint presses too much at the center.
🧴 Care and usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Combined leverage and curb-chain action: reserved for experienced riders. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
