A Curbgag bit made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a Dr. Bristol double-jointed mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with a flat central plate. When the bit tilts, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
- ✔ A combination of a Pelham and a loose-ring gag: a loose ring with two holes on each side, through which a leather strap passes. The pressure points are the chin and poll. It can be used with one or two reins.
- ✔ More incisive mouthpiece than a classic double-jointed bit: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Combined leverage and curb-chain action: for experienced riders only. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orangey film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
