A blue-patinated Sweet Iron Curbgag bit with a ridged mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Mouthpiece with a ridged surface along its entire length. The ridges increase grip on the bars compared with a smooth mouthpiece.
- ✔ A combination of a Pelham and a loose-ring elevator bit: a loose ring with two holes on each side, through which a leather strap passes. The points of contact are the chin and the poll. It can be used with one or two reins.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The ridges provide more bite than a smooth mouthpiece without going as far as a twisted mouthpiece: an intermediate option when a smooth mouthpiece is no longer enough.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit measuring tool, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Combined leverage and curb-chain action: for experienced riders only. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ More incisive mouthpiece than a smooth one: avoid for sensitive mouths.
