An arched loose-ring bridoon bit made of mild steel with a blue patina.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ One-piece, arched barrel with no joint.
  • ✔ Small loose rings that slide through the barrel, making the action less direct. This format is used as a bridoon on a double bridle (12 mm) or as a barrel for a hackamore (12 or 16 mm).

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: loose-ring bridoon bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Barrel: arched
  • Barrel thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

A one-piece barrel whose curve relieves pressure on the center of the tongue.

🧴 Instructions for use

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: this is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards to prevent pinching at the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
