A loose-ring snaffle bit made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a twisted locked-joint mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Twisted single joint that locks when it bends: under tension, the mouthpiece acts like a straight mouthpiece, then becomes single-jointed again as soon as the rider gives. The twist adds edges, resulting in a sharper action.
- ✔ Small loose rings that slide through the mouthpiece: the action is less direct. This format is used as the snaffle on a double bridle (12 mm) or as the mouthpiece for a hackamore (12 or 16 mm).

🧴 Instructions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards to prevent pinching at the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Corrective mouthpiece for horses that lean on the bit or run through the hand. Not suitable for sensitive horses or inexperienced riders.
