A short combined hackamore bit made of mild steel with a blue patina and a Dr. Bristol double-jointed mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with a flat central plate. When the bit moves, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
  • ✔ Combines a hackamore and a bit: pressure is distributed between the mouth and the nose. The short shanks provide moderate leverage. An adjustment screw is located above the mouthpiece.
  • ✔ More incisive mouthpiece than a standard double-jointed one: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

🐎 Why choose this product?

Use with full awareness: the plate acts edge-on, making this mouthpiece more incisive than it appears.

🧴 Directions for use

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit measuring tool, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The hackamore acts on the nasal bone: make sure the noseband rests on the bone and not on the cartilage of the nostrils. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
