- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ A single joint that locks as it folds: under rein tension, the mouthpiece then behaves like a straight mouthpiece, which increases its action. As soon as the tension eases, it becomes a single-jointed mouthpiece again.
- ✔ Similar to a Kimblewick, with greater leverage. It can be used with one or two reins: the lower the rein, the stronger the action.
- ✔ Corrective mouthpiece, designed for horses that lean on the hand or run through the contact.

It gives you two bits in one: a single-jointed bit when the hand is light, and a straight mouthpiece as soon as the horse leans. The horse discovers for itself that pulling is not worthwhile.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns grey-silver or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is the normal behaviour of Sweet Iron, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
