A Kimblehook bit made of Sweet Iron with a blue patina and a Dr. Bristol double-jointed mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ Double-jointed design with a flat central plate. When the bit tilts, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
  • ✔ Similar to a Kimblewick, with greater leverage. It can be used with one or two reins: the lower the rein, the stronger the action.
  • ✔ More incisive mouthpiece than a standard double-jointed bit: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: Kimblehook bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: Dr. Bristol double-jointed
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

Use with an understanding of its action: the plate acts edge-on, making the mouthpiece more incisive than it appears.

🧴 Instructions for use

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it presses the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brownish-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
