A Kimblewick bit made of blue-patina sweet iron, with a low tongue-port mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ Straight mouthpiece with a low tongue port. It provides a little more room for the tongue and distributes pressure correctly across the bars.
  • ✔ Similar to a Pelham, but with more direct action. It can be used with one or two reins: the lower the rein, the greater the leverage. It can also be used as a driving bit.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: Kimblewick bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: low tongue port
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

A little room for the tongue without freeing the palate: the first step toward greater tongue freedom when a simple joint presses too much in the centre.

🧴 Instructions for use

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
