A Kimblewick bit made of blue-patinated Sweet Iron, with a double-jointed French Link mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to moist air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a figure-eight central plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. Its thinner edges make the action slightly more incisive than that of a standard double-jointed bit, and the plate is angled at 45° to rest flat on the tongue.
- ✔ Similar to a Pelham, but with more direct action. It can be used with one or two reins: the lower the rein is attached, the greater the leverage. It can also be used as a driving bit.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The figure-eight plate distributes pressure evenly across the tongue: this is the standard double-jointed mouthpiece, the one to try when a single joint causes discomfort.
🧴 Directions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
