A Kimblewick bit made of sweet iron with a blue patina and a twisted, locking jointed mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is a mild steel that is blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ A single twisted joint that locks when it bends: under tension, the mouthpiece acts like a straight mouthpiece, then becomes a single-jointed mouthpiece again as soon as the hand gives. The twist adds edges, creating a sharper action.
- ✔ Similar to a Pelham, but with a more direct action. It can be used with one or two reins: the lower the rein is attached, the greater the leverage. It can also be used as a driving bit.

🧴 Instructions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Corrective mouthpiece for horses that lean on the bit or run through the hand. Not suitable for sensitive horses or inexperienced riders.
