✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is a mild steel that is blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to moist air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a wide tongue port. Unlike other double-jointed bits, it reduces pressure on the tongue rather than increasing it.
- ✔ Similar to a Pelham, but with more direct action. It can be used with one or two reins: the lower the rein, the greater the leverage. It can also be used as a driving bit.
- ✔ Used on horses that do not accept pressure on the tongue.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orangey film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
