A baby Pelham bit with a blue-patinated Sweet Iron mouthpiece and a grooved surface.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When it comes into contact with humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ The mouthpiece has a grooved surface along its entire length. The grooves increase the grip on the bars compared with a smooth mouthpiece.
- ✔ A reduced-size Pelham: combined action on the poll and chin, with one or two reins.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The grooves provide more bite than a smooth mouthpiece without going as far as a twisted one: an intermediate option when a smooth mouthpiece is no longer enough.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit measuring tool, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ With a single rein, a connector is required between the large ring and the lower ring. A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour changes to silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ The mouthpiece is sharper than a smooth one: avoid it for sensitive mouths.
