A baby Pelham bit made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a twisted barrel and locking joint.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Twisted single joint that locks when it bends: under tension, the barrel acts like a straight barrel, then becomes a single joint again as soon as the hand gives. The twist adds edges, resulting in a sharper action.
- ✔ Compact Pelham: combined action on the poll and chin, with one or two reins.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ A bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it presses the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ With a single rein, a connector strap is required between the large ring and the lower ring. A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Corrective barrel for horses that lean on the bit or run through the hand. Not suitable for sensitive horses or inexperienced riders.
