A Pelham bit made of mild steel with a blue patina and a Waterford ball barrel.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ A succession of articulated elliptical links: the barrel follows every contour and provides no fixed point of leverage. Used on heavy-mouthed horses that have difficulty relaxing their jaws.
- ✔ Combined leverage shank: it acts both on the poll, behind the ears, and on the chin. It can be used with one or two reins.

🐎 Why choose this product?
No fixed point of leverage: the heavy-mouthed horse has nothing to lean against. Reserve it for steady hands, as its mobility does not forgive an unsteady hand.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit sizer, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ With a single rein, a Pelham rounding is required between the large ring and the lower ring. A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Very mobile barrel, reserved for experienced, steady hands.
