✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is a mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with an elliptical-shaped central link. This shape better follows the anatomy of the mouth and allows the bit to sit more freely, but it applies slightly more pressure to the center of the tongue than a single joint.

The elliptical link eliminates the pinching effect of a single joint without the firmness of a flat plate: this is the most forgiving type of double-jointed bit.
🧴 Usage tips
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or measure the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The tall full cheeks are secured to the bridle with keepers to prevent them from tipping forward. ⚠️ The blue colour fades to silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
