A pony loose-ring bit made of blue-patina mild steel, with a single-jointed barrel.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ A single joint. This barrel puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed one and works mainly on the bars and the sides of the tongue. It is the standard barrel.
- ✔ The rings slide freely through the barrel. The dimensions are reduced for small mouths.

🐎 Why choose this product?
This is the barrel most horses are familiar with: the one to start with, and the one to return to when trying to determine what comes from the bit and what comes from the rider's hand.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: the corner of the mouth is pinched between the loose ring and the barrel. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
