A pony Pelham bit in blue-patina mild steel, with a double-jointed mouthpiece and an elliptical link.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a central link in an elliptical shape. This shape better follows the anatomy of the mouth and allows the bit to sit more freely, but it exerts slightly more pressure on the center of the tongue than a single joint.
- ✔ Combined leverage shanks: they act on both the poll, behind the ears, and the chin. It can be used with one or two reins. Dimensions in the TRUST pony collection: thinner mouthpiece and smaller shanks.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The elliptical link eliminates the pinching effect of a single joint without imposing the firmness of a flat plate: it is the most forgiving type of double joint.
🧴 Instructions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ With a single rein, a Pelham rounding should be used between the large ring and the lower ring. A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron function, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
