A Sweet Iron full-cheek hanging cheek snaffle with a blue patina and a Dr. Bristol double-jointed mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a flat central plate. When the bit rotates, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
- ✔ Two vertical cheeks on a fixed ring, with two small rings for the hanging cheek straps. The cheeks increase lateral support and make steering easier. The ring is smaller than on a standard full-cheek bit, so the leverage is reduced.
- ✔ A more incisive mouthpiece than a standard double-jointed bit: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

Use with an understanding of its action: the plate acts edge-on, making this mouthpiece more incisive than it looks.
🧴 Directions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit measuring tool, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it presses the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The hanging cheek strap replaces the usual bridle cheekpiece. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
