A blue-patina mild steel full cheek elevator bit with a ball-link Waterford mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ A succession of articulated elliptical links: the mouthpiece follows every contour and offers no fixed point to lean against. Used on heavy-mouthed horses that struggle to relax their jaw.
  • ✔ Two vertical cheeks on a fixed ring, with two small rings for the elevator cheekpieces. The cheeks increase lateral contact and make steering easier. The ring is smaller than on an ordinary full cheek bit, so the leverage is reduced.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: full cheek elevator bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: ball-link Waterford
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

There is no fixed point of contact for the horse to lean against. Reserve it for steady hands, as its mobility is unforgiving of a moving hand.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The elevator cheekpiece replaces the usual bridle cheekpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Very mobile mouthpiece, reserved for experienced, steady hands.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
