A loose-ring gag bit made of blue-patina mild steel, with a low tongue port in the mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Straight mouthpiece with a low tongue port. It leaves a little more room for the tongue and distributes pressure properly across the bars.
- ✔ Loose ring fitted with two small rings for the gag cheekpieces. The bit encourages the horse to raise its head. The pressure points are the poll and the corners of the mouth. It can be used with one or two reins, most often two to adjust the effect.

A little room for the tongue without freeing the palate: the first step toward tongue freedom when a simple joint presses too much in the centre.
🧴 Instructions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The gag cheekpiece replaces the usual bridle cheekpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is the normal behaviour of Sweet Iron, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
