A Sweet Iron loose-ring elevator bit with a blue patina and a ridged mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a sweet-tasting surface oxidation that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ The mouthpiece surface is ridged along its entire length. The ridges provide more grip on the bars than a smooth mouthpiece.
- ✔ Fixed ring fitted with two small rings for the elevator cheekpieces. The bit encourages the horse to raise its head. The fixed rings transmit the action more directly than a loose-ring elevator bit. The points of contact are the poll and the corners of the mouth.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The ridges provide more bite than a smooth mouthpiece without going as far as a twisted mouthpiece: an intermediate option when a smooth mouthpiece is no longer sufficient.
🧴 Use and care advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or take the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The elevator cheekpiece replaces the usual bridle cheekpiece. Two reins allow you to adjust the action. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orangey film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal for Sweet Iron, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ A more incisive mouthpiece than a smooth one: avoid using it on a sensitive mouth.
