A Swales bit made of Sweet Iron with a medium tongue port.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing through heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Straight mouthpiece with a medium tongue port: more room for the tongue and less pressure on its center.
- ✔ A combination of a bridle and a Pelham: it provides the effect of a bridle without its complexity. It is preferably used with two reins, with the bridle cheekpiece and one of the two reins attached to the large free ring to create the snaffle effect.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ With use, the blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
