A Swivel bit made of blue-patinated sweet iron, with a Wideport Segundo mouthpiece featuring a tongue relief port.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blue during manufacturing through heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a wide tongue relief port. Unlike other double-jointed bits, it reduces pressure on the tongue instead of increasing it.
- ✔ Loose rings with two inner half-rings connected by a vertical shank. The mouthpiece is attached to this shank and pivots up and down, producing a lifting effect. It can be used with one or two reins.
- ✔ Used on horses that do not accept pressure on the tongue.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or measure the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour changes to silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orangey film appears when the bit is left unused: this is the normal behaviour of Sweet Iron, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
