A Verdun bit (D-rings) made of blue-patinated sweet iron, with a double-jointed mouthpiece and elliptical center link.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is a mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with an elliptical center link. This shape follows the anatomy of the mouth more closely and allows the bit to sit more freely, but it applies slightly more pressure to the center of the tongue than a single-jointed mouthpiece.
  • ✔ Two D-shaped rings that do not pivot back and forth: greater stability and more direct action. The D-shape increases lateral pressure against the cheek, making steering easier.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: Verdun bit (D-rings)
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: double-jointed with elliptical center link
  • Mouthpiece thicknesses: 12 mm / 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

The elliptical center link eliminates the pinching effect of a single-jointed mouthpiece without the firmness of a flat plate: it is the most forgiving type of double-jointed mouthpiece.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit measuring tool, or measure the bit it currently wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. Choose the thickness according to the mouth: a thick mouthpiece distributes pressure over a larger surface area, but takes up too much space in a shallow mouth or with a thick tongue. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brownish-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
