Natural sheepskin is the softest option under a curb chain: its wool compresses, conforms to the hollow of the chin, and cushions without creating a pressure point. On a horse with sensitive skin or with a bridle worn regularly, it helps prevent chafing.

Compared with rubber, sheepskin is softer and more breathable, but it retains sweat and requires regular washing. Choose it if your horse has delicate skin or if the bridle is used several times a week; rubber is sufficient for occasional use.
🧴 Care instructions
⚠️ Sheepskin cannot compensate for a curb chain that is too tight: it should engage when the bit rotates approximately 45° and allow two fingers to fit underneath when at rest. Wash it regularly by hand, without fabric softener, and let it air-dry: sheepskin caked with dried sweat becomes abrasive.
